“Robots inheriting Golf? Arghhh!” This hole-in-one shot from LDRIC, the golf bot, will CHANGE YOUR OPINION

LDRIC, the golf robot was put into an exhibition test at the 2016 Waste Management Phoenix Open

Robots can pretty much do anything these days, but can they play a sport in place of a professional? Is it possible for a robot to excel in the discipline of golf where you need to take into account the wind factor, the distance, the angle as well as the force you apply while making the shot?

Well, it is. During the 2016 Waste Management Phoenix Open, LDRIC the golf bot was put into an exhibition trial test as it attempted to make a seemingly impossible hole-in-one shot on the par 3 16th hole.

LDRIC was seated as roaring spectators awaited a miracle. And boom, with a gizmo voice coupled with an effortless-looking swing, LDRIC made the crazy shot!

The ball flew high up in the air and when it landed far towards the par green, it almost walked right into the hole. Owners of the machine went into wild celebrations as people assembled looked up in awe and bewilderment.

“I was watching the ball fly, and there was a lip on the green. There was a sand trap, and it hit on that lip, and if it hit two inches lower, the ball was in the trap. But it hit right at the perfect angle, popped up and rolled 30 feet in. Sometimes it’s better to be lucky than good,” said Gene Parente, President of Golf Laboratories and owner of LDRICK.

Apart from Golf, Real Madrid launched robotic technology to perfect free-kicks

Real Madrid

A remarkable piece of technology recently launched by Spanish giants Real Madrid to simulate a moving free-kick wall may be a glimpse into the future.

As you can see in the video above, it seems like the gadget lets users change the height of specific figures, so you may anticipate potential opponents based on their stature. So, for instance, Los Blancos players might practice shooting over a mannequin that is similar to the height of Andreas Christensen or Jules Kounde before a match versus Barcelona.

There are a total of six life-size mannequins, but you can take one out at any time. While Toni Kroos easily found the net, Luka Modric used a five-‘robot’ wall to curl one past the Madrid goalkeeper. Every little detail matters, as they say, particularly when you are defending your Champions League title in the coming months.
