Which pro golfer cheated on PGA Tour?
PGA Championship live stream
The PGA Tour is one of the most prestigious tours in America, as it organises the majority of the pro golf tournaments held in the country. Winning a Major championship at that in the tour is one of the biggest achievements one could have as a pro golfer.
While several names make the list for the most remembered golfers of all time, there is one golfer who is remembered- but for not the best of reasons. This golfer is Patrick Reed– who plays on both the PGA Tour and the European Tour. Reed has nine wins on the Tour, including a Major Championship and the 2018 Masters Tournament. He also has two World Golf Championships to his name.
Yet, one of the most controversial names in the industry got caught up in drama last year at the PGA Tour’s Farmers Insurance Open.
Patrick Reed caught in cheating controversy at PGA Tour
Reed became the centre of drama at the Farmers Insurance Open over the moving of an “embedded” ball, all while leading in the third round by four shots. During this time he hit a a fairway bunker shot that went to the left of the green, with the ball hitting the rough to bounce and settle nearby in the grass. The problem starts when Reed picked up the ball claiming it has been embedded into the ground- despite the fact that it did not go straight into the ground, but rather bounced and settled there instead.
Yet, he picked up the ball before any official or counterpart had seen it, and then went on to insist to the rules official Brad Fabel that the ball had been embedded- even though the cameras had clearly proved him wrong. However, the rules official gave him relief for the ball, which he ended with a par.
The incident caught the attention of several individuals later, who questioned the validity of what Reed had to say. Veteran presenter Jim Nantz said “A ball that, on one bounce, never got a foot off the ground … that can actually puncture and embed into the ground? That’s possible?”, according to foxsports.com.
However, Reed was pleased with the outcome of the situation. “I had no clue about it [the controversy] until literally I walked in scoring there and the head rules official’s standing in there and has a cell phone out and says, ‘Hey you guys, I want you all to come over here, I want you to watch something’. You mark it [the ball], you check, you remove the ball away from the area where you can clean the ball or anything like that, until the rules official comes over and agrees that it has broken the plane and then at that point, you just move on.”
