With this win at PGA Tour Canada, the 29-year-old golfer will receive a $40,500 prize-winning and along with that a $25,000 bonus from Fortinet as he was Numero Uno in the season-long points race. Although, a win wasn’t compulsory for Wil Bateman to make it to the Korn Ferry Tour he was surprisingly happy with what happened.

Bateman is the second Canadian to claim the Player of the Year title

Bateman after Mackenzie Hughes became only the second Canadian to claim PGA Tour Canada Player of the Year honors. Hughes of Dundas, Ont. received the honors in 2013.

Calling the tournament a success – PGA Tour Canada executive director Scott Pritchard is hoping that golf club Deer Ridge will be surely part of 2023 once again.

“It’s been a tremendous event, and the players are really enjoying the golf course. It’s playing difficult, the scores are probably higher than they would want, but they’re certainly enjoying the test,” he said.

“We’ll regroup with Deer Ridge after the event. We have a contract in place that potentially puts us back here next year, but we’ll have to have some meetings and figure that out, but we’d be delighted to be back, and so would the players.”
