Unfortunately for him, his ball would dramatically lip out. This one putt would eventually become the difference between the winner and loser as Clark was forced to settle for a tied runner-up spot alongside Xander Schauffele and Brian Harman, all of whom finished one shot behind Scheffler.

After the event, Clark admitted that he was “gutted” to lose and didn’t knew how it did not go in.

I don’t know how that putt doesn’t go in. It was kind of right center with like a foot to go, and I knew it was going to keep breaking, but it had speed, and I thought it was going to go in inside left, and even when it kind of lipped, I thought it would lip in. I’m pretty gutted it didn’t go in.

After being shown the clip of Clark’s lip-out, Scheffler seemed stunned himself. The 27-year-old though praised his compatriot for his effort and warned the others that this won’t be the last battle between the two this season.

Its's tough... It's a tough finishing hole and Wyndham put up a good fight, he put a good fight last week, he's be playing obviously some great golf this year and I'm sure this won't be the last time this year where we're both top of the leaderboard and battle it out.

Scheffler though just like the previous week, has silenced his doubters. After going through a dip in form, he has bounced back and is once again looking dangerous in golf events. This performances has now made him one of the heavy favorites to walk out as a major champion this season.

As for Clark, two consecutive runner-ups finish would surely ignite some fire in him which could prove helpful in the upcoming events. Despite coming up short here, the defending U.S Open champion has made a statement to the world and urged them to take him seriously and consider him as one of the top guys on the Tour at the moment.
