Will lawsuit against Yasir Al-Rumayyan effect the ongoing golf merger?

The golfing community have been patiently waiting for an update regarding the ongoing merger between the PGA Tour and PIF. It was recently reported that Tour Commissioner Jay Monahan had flown to Middle East to speak with Yasir Al-Rumayyan on this. However this serious allegations against the Saudi official has left the fans worried.

This lawsuit comes at time when there have been slow progress in the negotiations process. While departing DP World Tour CEO Keith Pelley expressed confidence that the deal could be wrapped up soon, this legal case could become an obstacle.

Al-Rumayyan currently not only serves as the PIF governor, but also the governor of their backed LIV Golf. Any charges against him could see the merger talks extend beyond the April deadline.

As per earlier reports, Al-Rumayyan is expected to become the chairman of the new entity once the golf merger fully goes through. It will now be interesting to see what ramifications will this lawsuit have, if any, on the ongoing negotiations between the two tours.

Speaking of the tours, the PGA Tour will be hosting their third event of the year in the form of the American Express this weekend. On the other hand, LIV Golf and its stars are still preparing for the new season while coming to terms of the new format changes for the 2024 season.
