Following a one-year delay, Ryder Cup 2020 finally got underway at the Whistling Straits. Ahead of the intercontinental showdown, Rory McIlroy and Sergio Garcia seem to be excited to feature for Team Europe. The last edition of the event was held in Paris back in 2018 saw Europe securing a win over the USA.
The visitors are keen to retain the trophy and are excited to be in action at the Whistling Straits. In a recent video shared, both McIlroy and Garcia were seen recreating Cristiano Ronaldo‘s signature celebration. The duo reenacted Ronaldo’s famous ‘Siuuu’ celebration on the course a day before the event begins.
What is the format of the Ryder Cup?
The previous edition of the Ryder Cup, which took place in France back in 2018, saw the hosts come out on top 17.5-10.5. The intercontinental Cup is far from typical PGA Tour events. A win gives the team one point and a tie sees the teams get half a point each.
The first event of the competition is the foursome where two-man teams play one ball and alternate hitting shots. The second event is the four-ball where each member of a two-man team plays his own ball. The lowest of the two scores of each team is considered to decide the winner. The third day of the competition witnesses all 24 players on each team face off in 12 singles matches.
