“That is a total misread” – Billy Kratzert on Collin Morikawa’s missed putt

Top US golfer Collin Morikawa was 81 feet away and even the PGA Tour Live graphic calculated that there was just about a 30 per cent chance of not two-putting from here. However, the world number 2 then rolled it on the 8th hole on the Kapalua Plantation Course at the ongoing Sentry Tournament of Champions.

As a result, he missed by over 20 feet to the right of the hole, and former pro and a longtime analyst gave it another, slightly more rare estimation.

“That is a total misread,” Billy Kratzert said at this moment on PGA Tour Live’s broadcast of Saturday’s Round 3 of the Tournament of Champions. “I can’t even tell you — you may see that twice a year a misread like that.”

Following this, the broadcasters indulged in an in-depth conversation on this incident. “Oh, my,” announcer John Swantek said on the broadcast.

“Well, we knew it was going to be a difficult two-putt from 81 feet, but that, uh, that first putt was mysteriously bad,” Swantek further said.

“He could have missed his line by maybe 6 or 8 inches,” Kratzert said.

“Right on the razor’s edge, wasn’t it?” Swantek said.

“Exactly,” Kratzert said.

The 24-year-old is not just behind clinching the sixth PGA TOUR victory at the 2022 Tournament of Champions but can also become the second quickest player to reach world No. 1 at the Plantation Course. Morikawa needs just a finish in the top three to achieve this outstanding feat.

“It’s been a dream my entire life to get to No.1 in the world, but it’s not just about getting to No. 1 it’s about sustaining that,” Morikawa had said earlier this week. “And it’s not like that’s a peak… I get to No.

“Having an opportunity here, it’s all in my control, all I can do is try and win the tournament and that’s all I’m going to focus on. But it’s a huge goal, it always has been and it means something that when you do get there it means you’re doing something right or at least a good amount of things right,” the American golfer added.
