TPS Murray River: Australia’s Hannah Green becomes first woman golfer to win mixed-gender tournament
Hannah Green
The Perth native golfer Hannah Green has made history on Sunday by becoming the first-ever woman to win a mixed-gender professional tournament. She achieved this iconic feat after claiming a dominant victory in the Players Series Murray River event at the Cobram Barooga.
In a tournament that saw some of Australia’s best golfers – both male and female, competing in the same field, Green began the day alongside three men in a share of the lead. However, she went on to pull away on the back nine to win by four shots.
This marked the maiden win by a female golfer in a full 72-hole mixed tournament on any major tour in the world. Notably, some female golfers have previously won one and two-round tournaments but never a full, four-day tournament and Green became the first one to do so and write her name with gold in the history books.
“Wasn’t in my plans to play here” – Hannah Green
Hannah, 25, stated that it still feels like a dream for her to not just participate but win the TPS Murray River title.
“It’s weird, I don’t normally have golf dreams,” said Hannah.
“Very, very rarely, but I actually had one last night of me after winning.
“I didn’t know how many I won but for it to come true is really cool,” the young golfer added.
Green further revealed that earlier there was no plan of playing here and she was about to go back to Perth.
She continued: “It was just me holding the trophy and people spraying me with champagne. And then I woke up hoping it wasn’t just a dream.
“I feel amazing. I just feel so grateful that I came, it wasn’t in my plans to play here. I was going to go back to Perth. But things happen for a reason and I am really glad I made it.”
