“Wasn’t cool until Tiger Woods imitated me” – Kevin Na
Kevin Na and Tiger Woods
Korean American golfer Kevin Na finished off a 9-under 61 in Round 1 of the Sony Open in Hawaii by walking in a 6-footer for birdie and the lead.
After his round, Golf Channel‘s Steve Burkowski caught him for a short interaction and asked Na where walking-in putts originated. The Seoul native also referred to the incident with Tiger Woods when the two played together in the third round of the 2019 Players Championship.
“I’ve always done it,” said Na, the tournament’s defending champion who couldn’t produce a stellar performance this time. “Nobody thought it was cool until, you know, the Big Cat imitated me.”
“Michael Phelps is the greatest Olympian of all time”
Meanwhile, American golfer Jordan Spieth, who is back in 2021 to amaze after a long period of crisis, finished just a position beneath Na at the Sony Open at Kapalua Plantation Course in Honolulu, Hawaii yesterday. Alongside veteran swimmer Michael Phelps, he played the Pro-Am of the BMW Championship, the second event of the Play-Offs of the PGA Tour starting today in Owing Mills (USA), Maryland.
“He’s a good guy, he’s been through a lot as a sportsman and he’s the greatest Olympian of all time with a lot of tricks up his sleeve. I’m not going to reveal what I asked him but I can say that he has helped me a lot in the last period.
“The mental aspect is something I’ve worked on a lot with him lately.
I’m really lucky to have him around. Besides, he’s a great lover of golf and having him now more and more in our world is an added value,” Jordan Spieth opined.
