WATCH: Hideki Matsuyama’s ‘best 3-wood ever’ leaves netizens awestruck
Hideki Matsuyama's incredible shot
The first full-field PGA event of the year produced what could be the shot of the year as Hideki Matsuyama produced a stunning short at the Waialae Country Club on Sunday. The fact that the outrageous shot came in the playoff makes it even more special as the Japanese bagged the Sony Open 2022 title.
A horrid show for Russell Henley saw him give up a five-shot lead as Matsuyama sneaked his way to the top. The duo finished tied at 23 under par as they headed into playoffs. While it looked hopeless for Henley who failed to secure a birdie in his final nine holes, Matsuyama’s unreal shot closed the deal.
Hideki Matsuyama’s incredible shot seals the deal
The very second shot of the playoff saw Hideki Matsuyama launch a mighty blow into the sky. The 29-year-old’s shot landed 277 yards away, only a couple of feet away from the hole. Unfortunately, Matsuyama couldn’t even watch his glorious shot as the glaring sun left him blinded.
While the Japanese couldn’t admire his shot, the netizens were left dumbstruck with the magnificence of the shot. Twitteratis were left hailing Matsuyama’s 3 wood as he lifted his eighth PGA Tour victory.
