Alex Pereira and Magomed Ankalaev are set to fight once again in the UFC 320 main event for championship glory. They previously clashed at UFC 313, where Ankalaev decisively defeated Pereira and captured the light heavyweight title from the Brazilian striker. Now ‘Poatan’ returns, seeking redemption against the Russian, determined to win back his belt and reclaim honor.
Going into this highly anticipated fight, the trash-talking and intensity of bad blood between the fighters is palpable. The Russian powerhouse, Ankalaev, has directed a barrage of criticisms towards Pereira on several occasions for social media engagement. Both fighters recently crossed paths at UFC headquarters, and, as expected, the situation escalated into a heated altercation.
Despite significant language barriers between them, neither fighter allowed communication issues to hinder the confrontation; instead used Google Translate. Ankalaev demanded Pereira stop speaking outside the cage and resolve everything in the Octagon, prompting Pereira’s befitting reply.
I never said anything, they’re the ones who are always talking. And now when he shows up in front of me, he’s a coward.

As the conversation between Alex Pereira and Ankalaev took place using Google Translate, the serious situation turned into a comedic moment for fans online. Many joked on social media that foreign fighters should learn English to make trash talk more seamless and direct between rivals.
Former pound-for-pound king Islam Makhachev once emphasized that UFC fighters need to learn English to better connect with fans worldwide. This recent Google Translate feud between Pereira and Ankalaev perfectly illustrated his point, showing difficulties faced without a common language.
Before this, Pereira claimed Ankalaev tried to evade him and refused to face him directly at the UFC Performance Institute. Pereira called Ankalaev scared and expressed confidence in reclaiming his lost light heavyweight title soon. Heading into the bout, ‘Poatan’ is the betting underdog, but his knockout power could still result in a major upset.
Several doubters have questioned Alex Pereira’s current training camp, recalling UFC 313 when he was accused of losing focus because of the growing fame. With his back against the wall, the Brazilian superstar now has a major opportunity to bounce back and reclaim his throne.
Fight fans react to Alex Pereira and Magomed Ankalaev’s latest altercation
Alex Pereira has become one of the most popular UFC fighters, captivating fans with his aggressive striking and dynamic fighting. In 2024, the Brazilian achieved remarkable success, consecutively knocking out three top light heavyweight contenders and proving his dominance.

With Magomed Ankalaev wanting to hand the Brazilian another KO loss, things look as heated as ever. ‘Poatan’ wants to reclaim his lost glory and go on another title run to close out his legendary combat sports career. However, the lack of proper fluency in English, leading to the use of Google application was not something the fan base was expecting. Here are some of the fan reactions:
The more Alex speaks, the less aura he retains.

Not Ank playing the victim. In their first fight, Ank tried poking and making fun of Alex and Alex ignored him. Ank wanted an audience, wanted to be like Alex in the social media. He even offered Alex an immediate rematch (strike while the iron is hot) but Alex was smarter about…

Ankalaev is a chill and humble guy who just likes to fight .
But when you have your manager talking shit on your Twitter account , if you don’t have that same energy in person in makes you look bad .
Some fans also mentioned that Ankalaev was unaware of the controversial X comments made by his manager, Ali Abdelaziz, on his behalf. However, the light heavyweight champion recently admitted that for two months, he was using X on his own through ChatGPT and Google Translate.
Ankalaev insisted on trash-talks ahead of their first fight, but ‘Poatan’ refused to get into a confrontational mode. In the months leading up to the rematch, the Russian star provoked Pereira by claiming the Brazilian wasn’t fighting again.
The new light heavyweight champion wasn’t done with that. He also vowed to send the former champion back to the tire shop he came from. This has angered Pereira and he has become aggressive in the lead-up to their rematch at UFC 320. However, the language barrier left the confrontation even more bizarre. As such, the duo will have the chance to get the last laugh at the upcoming PPV event in October.
