Gordon Hayward injury crisis continues with fractured finger
Gordon Hayward

Charlotte Hornet’s newest acquisition Gordon Hayward fractured his finger in the pre-season loss to Toronto Raptors. It seems like the injury Gods have followed Hayward even to Charlotte. Hayward signed 4-year $120 Million deal with the Hornets, after being Boston Celtic’s 4th scoring option. Hayward had a decent first outing for the Hornets as well.

Charlotte Hornets kick start their regular season December 23 against Cleveland Cavaliers. Hornets management said his return would be based on his pain tolerance and comfort level. Hayward has been struggling for the previous two seasons with his injuries even when he was with the Boston Celtics.

This injury is not season-ending, and can be healed rather quickly. Regardless, the Hornets should be cautious moving forward, especially due to Gordon Hayward’s history of injuries. This fracture is on Hayward’s shooting hand, and could absolutely affect his shooting motion if not healed properly.

After playing 72 games but often struggling in 2018-19, Hayward appeared to be close to his former self last season with the Celtics, averaging 17.5 points, 6.7 rebounds and 4.1 assists. While shooting 50% from the field, 38% from 3-point range and 85% from the foul line. But he played in only 52 of Boston’s 72 games because of a variety of injuries.

He suffered a broken bone in his left hand in November 2019, and then he had nerve issues in his previously injured left foot in December 2019. He then missed 12 of Boston’s 17 playoff games inside the NBA’s bubble in Orlando. His injury crisis has even led him to the Celtics bench and eventually missing a lot of him game-time. But the question here remains, when will he be able to return for the Hornets?
