Government allocates Rs. 2596.14 crores to Sports Minister in Budget 2021; Kiren Rijiju welcomes changes

The Indian Government has allocated a sum of Rs. 2596.14 crores to the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports for the financial year 2021-22 in the budget presented today. This sum is lesser than the sum that was allocated last year by a total of Rs. 230.78 crores. In the financial year of 2020-21, Rs. 1800.15 crores were allocated to the ministry.
For the Khelo India program, the government has allocated Rs. 737.71 crores out of which Rs. 657.71 crores will be used for the program while Rs. 50 crores and Rs. 30 crores will go to ‘Enhancement of Sports Facility at J&K’ and ‘Commonwealth Games’ respectively. Further, the budget has allocated Rs. 660.41 crore to the Sports Authority of India (SAI).
Kiren Rijiju welcomes new budget plan
Stating his views on the budget, the Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports, Kiren Rijiju tweeted saying, “The Budget 2021-22 presented by Finance Minister @nsitharaman Ji has proven that under the visionary leadership of PM @narendramodi Ji, the massive pandemic crisis has been effectively converted into huge opportunity. #NewIndia is becoming a completely #AatmaNirbharBharat.”
While presenting the budget today, for the first time ever in a digital platform, finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman stated that there would be a huge boost to healthcare and infrastructure building. She stated that India’s fight against the COVID-19 pandemic will continue to take place well into 2021. She also stated that India is all set to become the ‘land of promise and hope’.
