Grand Theft Auto 6: Everything we know about Rockstar’s next crime odyssey
After nearly a decade of rumours and conjecture, Rockstar Games has finally announced that its new Grand Theft Auto game is in development. The successor to one of the world’s most popular games must fill some large shoes, having sold nearly 110 million copies and crashing the Epic Games Store when it was given away for free.
Not to mention, the online component of the game is still going strong, with fresh material and enhancements available on the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.

The release of Grand Theft Auto 6
The normal Rockstar Games release strategy entails an official Twitter announcement, followed by another 22 to 23 months of waiting for a release date. This is in line with an analyst remark from investment bank Jefferies, who claims that Rockstar has at least one IP “expected to be launched by FY24.” If this is correct, Grand Theft Auto 6 could be released between April 2023 and March 31, 2024.
These dates are also confirmed by a leak from YouTuber Tom Henderson, who claims that Grand Theft Auto 6 will not be released before 2024 or 2025. Rockstar is also attempting to prevent a situation similar to that of Cyberpunk 2077, in which they promise a release date but fail to meet it. The studio has previously launched a remaster of their classic GTA games, which was widely panned for its horrible flaws and graphics on social media.
The plot and setting of Grand Theft Auto 6
Since Rockstar revealed “early development” in April 2020, a slew of rumours have surfaced. One thing that hasn’t changed is the environment, which is a modern-day version of Vice City, the titular metropolis from the original game.
Bloomberg journalist Jason Schrier confirmed the rumour on Twitter, saying, “Idk why everyone believes I mentioned GTA VI was due in 2023.” “Everything Tom Henderson has mentioned about the game confirms what I’ve heard.”
The original Vice City was situated near the end of the hippy revolution, and Rockstar takes a lot of influence from real-life cities and events. This time, according to tipper Tom Henderson, we’ll get to see a modern-day reproduction imitating Miami’s neon-drenched aesthetic.
Another hypothesis claims that GTA 6 will be set in three separate countries – fictional depictions of the United States, Miami, and Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Flying between them will be possible as part of the storey or simply for tourism.
