Grant Williams found a rare card of former teammate Luka Doncic

Charlotte Hornets forward Grant Williams has discovered a new hobby that’s already paying off. He started collecting basketball cards on Friday and immediately hit the jackpot at the Fanatics Fest in New York when he purchased a National Treasures box for $10,500 and found a rare Luka Doncic rookie card inside.

The card, which featured a patch from Doncic’s jersey and his autograph, is worth at least $100,000. Grant Williams had already received offers of up to $500,000, but he’s holding out to see if his former teammate Luka Doncic will make a better offer. Williams then joked that Doncic would likely buy the card for $1 million.

I said I've got to give Luka first right to refusal, just because he would buy this for like a million I bet... I FaceTimed him twice, he didn't pick up. He's in Slovenia right now. So he'll call me back and I'll talk to him about it because this is absurd.
Grant Williams said about the rare Luka Doncic rookie card in a video doing the rounds

In addition to the valuable card of his former teammate, Williams also pulled rare cards of Boston Celtics Jayson Tatum and Minnesota Timberwolves Anthony Edwards. This impressive haul has encouraged him to continue collecting basketball cards, a hobby he only started this week. He also has experience collecting Pokémon cards but decided to try his hand at basketball cards.

Williams’ luck has been astonishing, and he’s excited to see how much he can sell the Doncic card for. He’s giving his former teammate the first right of refusal, but if Doncic doesn’t bite, he will consider other offers for the much-needed card.

Grant Williams took a shot at former team, Dallas Mavericks after debut with Hornets

The Dallas Mavericks were considered the biggest winners during last season’s trade deadline after they acquired P.J. Washington and Daniel Gafford in separate deals. However, Grant Williams, who was traded to the Charlotte Hornets, took a shot at his former team after his debut.

It's great to get a win for this city and really play for the jersey that's across your chest, not the one on your back. So, I was fortunate to be part of a team that really wanted to win. It was super exciting, the playstyle was fun, everybody touched the ball... We trusted one another. A team that had never played with each other or practiced with one another, every single person seemed like they had each other's back.

His tenure with the Mavericks didn’t work out, despite him getting sufficient touches on the ball. Over his final 34 games with the Mavericks, he shot 38.4% from the field and 31.9% from deep, with 6.2 shot attempts per game. His lack of impact on the defensive end was a major reason for his departure, leading the Mavericks to trade him to the Hornets despite signing him to a four-year, $53 million deal during the preceding offseason.

However, his debut with the Hornets was impressive, but his comments suggested he still had a sour taste in his mouth about his time with the Mavericks. The Hornets open their season with a trip to the Toyota Center to face the Houston Rockets.
