The co-main event of UFC 308 between Robert Whittaker and Khamzat Chimaev ended far sooner than fans anticipated. Whittaker had braced himself for a five-round war, but in reality, it took ‘Borz’ just four minutes to finish the fight. For the Australian star, it’s a night he’d likely prefer to forget, but moving on might be harder than expected with a broken jaw.

Despite Whittaker’s intensive wrestling training, he couldn’t withstand Chimaev’s relentless pressure. Once Chimaev secured a grip on his jaw, Whittaker tapped immediately. Some fans questioned the quick tap, but it was later revealed that Whittaker’s jaw had broken under the pressure. A renowned sports doctor recently analyzed the severity of his injury.

Not just that the teeth fell out. The teeth are actually still attached to the lower portion that is anchored into the jaw but the jaw is broken in a way that has caused his teeth to be completely displaced backward into his mouth.

Brian Sutterer has stated that Robert Whittaker will likely require surgery to repair the damage to his teeth and jaw. There is a possibility that the ‘Reaper’ might have to get his jaw wired shut and teeth braced for some time.  As a fan favorite, Whittaker’s recent loss has been a tough one for many to accept. This injury is quite serious and may require significant time for recovery.

Brutal injuries are an unfortunate yet inevitable aspect of MMA, and this one ranks among the most gruesome in recent memory. Watching from the octagon side, UFC CEO Dana White immediately recognized that Whittaker had dislocated his jaw. White quickly called for medical personnel to be on standby. While it was a tough night for Whittaker, the outcome was a stark contrast for Chimaev.

Khamzat Chimaev’s reacts to breaking Robert Whittaker’s jaw at UFC 308

Khamzat Chimaev has frequently mentioned that he’s the best wrestler on the UFC roster. Following his tradition, Chimaev shot for a takedown as soon as he saw an opening and successfully finished Robert Whittaker. It was a big win for the Chechen warrior, who is now a step closer to the middleweight title.

Chimaev entered the fight surprisingly calmly, a noticeable shift from his usual aggressive approach. He held immense respect for Whittaker, openly expressing his admiration in the lead-up to the bout. After learning about Whittaker’s injury, Chimaev responded humbly, making it clear that his intentions were strictly professional.

Khamzat Chimaev’s journey since his UFC debut hasn’t been easy. Despite high expectations from fans, his growth was hampered by health concerns and battles with depression. However, fatherhood appears to have transformed him, increasing his focus and goals. Chimaev is now more determined than ever to win UFC gold.
