Greg Norman’s tenure with LIV Golf as its CEO is expected to end by August 31st this year. However, the 69-year-old is far from thinking about retirement from the sport.

In an interview with Australian Golf Digest, Norman talked about how the PGA Tour players have enjoyed monetary benefits over the years after LIV Golf’s establishment. He said even top players like Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy couldn’t resist the clutch of pocketing PIP money from events.

Since the establishment of LIV Golf in 2022 there’s been continuous bad blood between them. Regardless of peace offerings and congratulatory messages, the rift is yet to close with a new year beginning once again.

Norman said that if he sat down with Woods and McIlroy he’d for sure win the debate about whether the PGA Tour players have enjoyed LIV Golf benefits too. He said he’d love to hear what they have to say on this matter and can’t wait to discuss it further.

I would love to. I would love them to recognise the fact that – like Tiger with his PIP money – that only came because of LIV, right?… Rory’s definitely benefitted from that. I would love to sit down and talk to them about it, no question about it…And you know what? I’d win the debate.

Earlier Tiger Woods suggested that Greg Norman should step aside from his position for there to be any talk about a merger deal. The same sentiment was shared by Rory McIlroy who stated that they needed “an adult in the room” to discuss such matters further.

While Norman did step out of his role any merger talk about PGA-LIV is yet to officially take action. There have been several meetings in the past but the discussion hasn’t shown any official movements towards making amends between LIV-PGA.

Greg Norman has no intention of retiring from golf despite getting replaced

Last week Greg Norman was officially replaced by Scott O’Neil who has more than 25 years of experience in sport and entertainment management. Norman will step down on August 31 this year.

However, he has no intention of retiring from the sport early on. Norman expressed that he wants to stay connected to LIV and support the Saudi-backed league even after August.

I really have changed the game of golf more than what people realise. I’d like to double the portfolio of golf courses I’ve opened. I’ve done 124 now. I’d love to have 250 done in the next whatever number of years. So, no retirement. Slow down, yes. But no retirement.

Furthermore, Norman’s retirement means he’ll have less work officially and will instead focus on expanding his business and golf courses. With hopes of a PGA-LIV merger taking place sometime in the future, Norman and the sport of golf will take a new turn this year under O’Neil’s management.
