Nick Kyrgios is back. He is competing in the warm-up tournaments on grass, and it was here that he finally clinched a match win since March 2025.

Kyrgios returned to action at the Stuttgart Open, competing in a tournament for the first time since the Australian Open. Before Stuttgart, he had played just one singles match, against Aleksandar Kovacevic in the first round of the Brisbane International.

In Stuttgart, Kyrgios kicked off his campaign in strong fashion, knocking out eighth seed Corentin Moutet 6-3, 6-4. But he couldn’t repeat the same result against Sho Shimabukuro, who came from a set down to clinch a 4-6, 7-6(5), 6-4 win.

After these warm-up events, the tennis world will shift its focus toward the Wimbledon Championships, the main draw of which starts on June 29th. But Kyrgios won’t be able to play until he gets a wild card. Former British World No.1 Greg Rusedski, during his Off Court with Greg podcast, gave his take on whether the Aussie deserves a wild card for the third Major of the season.

Nick Kyrgios got a wild card as well, and the big debate right now is: ‘Will he get a wild card in the main draw, qualies or will they say no to him?’ That’s where Mr. [Tim] Henman has a little bit of a job to decide what does he do. I’m not so sure he deserves the main draw wild card; qualies, I think, would probably be more sufficed, but I’m glad I don’t have to make the decision.

Kyrgios, who lost to Novak Djokovic in the 2022 Wimbledon final, received wild cards for both the Stuttgart Open and the Halle Open. At present, he is competing in Halle but has yet to start his singles campaign. He will face Stuttgart champion Ben Shelton in the first round.

Nick Kyrgios reveals if he is jealous of Alexander Zverev’s Grand Slam success

Alexander Zverev finally got the monkey off his back after winning the recently concluded French Open by defeating Flavio Cobolli. The German ace ended his Grand Slam title drought after three unsuccessful attempts in the finals, losing the 2020 US Open to Dominic Thiem, the 2024 French Open to Carlos Alcaraz, and the 2025 Australian Open to Jannik Sinner.

Nick Kyrgios, who belongs to the same generation of players as Sascha, said there’s nothing to be jealous about his achievements, lauding the World No.3 for never giving up on his Grand Slam dream in spite of a career-threatening ankle injury he suffered during the 2022 French Open semifinal against eventual champion Rafael Nadal.

I’m the least jealous person ever. So, when I see any of my peers winning, everyone can eat; there’s plenty of room for everyone to have success in this world. To see Sascha finally get over that hump, he’s been one of our most consistent players on tour now for the last 10 years. I mean, barring that disgusting injury he had that he bounced back from. People forget, like, that was to 99% of players that’s a career- ending injury.

Kyrgios has met Zverev seven times, winning four of those matches, with the former winning their last meeting in the 2019 Acapulco final. They can only meet in Halle if they both reach the semifinals.

Zverev is also competing in Halle and will start his singles campaign against Vit Kopriva. Although he has so far made three finals on grass, he has yet to win a title on the surface. Also at Wimbledon, Zverev has never made it past the fourth round and suffered an opening-round exit last year.
