Greg Zuerlein, who cost Jets the game, has brutally honest admission about his ‘forgetful’ MNF outing against Bills
The New York Jets initially signed veteran 36-year-old Nebraskan Greg Zuerlein in 2022 for a year contract from the Dallas Cowboys.

If one could count the issues with the New York Jets, they were a plethora. The Buffalo Bills MNF game was no different either – the Jets lost 20-23 at the MetLife Stadium. It could have been a win easily – if not for their biggest mistake, missed field goals.
The New York Jets kicker Greg Zuerlein missed two field goals during the game, costing them six important points. Zuerlein has been inconsistent for some time now. He missed a crucial field goal against the Denver Broncos in Week 4 as well as against the New England Patriots in Week 3.
Zuerlein admitted that his inconsistencies had been going back into practice as well. Speaking to media post the game, he shed light on the situation and held himself accountable for the losses.
I’m just not kicking the ball. I wouldn’t say the [windy] conditions played into it. It’s just me not kicking the ball the proper way, and results showed for themselves. Not just this game, but previous games [Denver] as well. These guys [teammates] deserve better, and I can do better. I just need to do it.
Greg Zuerlein said
Greg Zuerlein had two spectacular seasons with the Jets despite losing records. In his first season, he was 30-for-37 while in the second, they were 35-for-38, marginally getting better. However, in the first six games of the 2024 season, he has missed four field goals and sitting at 66.7%. The Jets are definitely not liking this situation as they hoped he would develop into a more dependable piece.
The New York Jets brought the ex-Cowboys and Rams player Zuerlein in 2022. He made instant news with 60+ yard field goals in his first season. The Jets re-signed him in 2023 for another one-year contract. After bettering his stats from the previous year, the Jets once again re-signed him in 2024 for a two-year, $8.4 million contract deal.
Interim HC Jeff Ulbrich came in support of Greg Zuerlein after dismal start
Jeff Ulbrich stepped in after Woody Johnson fired Robert Saleh, following a loss to the Minnesota Vikings in Week 5. Ulbrich’s debut game as HC didn’t go well despite Rodgers attempting ‘Hail Ulbrichs’ and trying to convert the game into a win. The Bills went up 4-2 in the division while the Jets fell behind the Miami Dolphins who played a game less.

However, Ulbrich didn’t have any dismay or outcry against Greg Zuerlein. Rather, Ulbrich came in support of the player, admitting that there would be future games where Zuerlein would come through.
This entire locker room, this entire organization and I’d hope this entire fan base, has great belief in Greg. We’re going to have winning moments in this season where he’ll win games for us. We know that and I believe that. Everything you take a hard look at, but I’m not concerned with Greg. I know the track record of this man and I know he’s gonna catch his rhythm here and we’re gonna roll.
Jeff Ulbrich told the reporters
Zuerlein’s mistakes are coming in a season where kickers have been absolutely killing it. Brandon Aubrey has been Dallas’ rock for some time now while Ka’imi Fairbairn‘s antics a week ago were the talk of the town. Six players have maintained a perfect 100% success rate on their kicks through six games. impressively, kickers are now making 50-yard+ field goals at a pace the league has never seen before.
