After his opening-round win at Wimbledon, Grigor Dimitrov was asked about taking vacations in Ibiza. He responded with a lighthearted remark, referring to Carlos Alcaraz and his recent trip there. Dimitrov’s comment added a humorous touch to the post-match conversation.

Alcaraz had just returned from a short break on the island following his Roland Garros triumph. Like last year, he took time off in Ibiza with close friends to relax and recover. The trip came at the perfect time after a demanding clay season. The Bulgarian said in his post-match interview at Wimbledon:

Well Carlitos can go in between the matches to Ibiza and come back and it won’t affect him. That’s for sure.

The Spaniard earned his rest after surviving an epic battle against Jannik Sinner in the French Open final. He saved three championship points and came back from two sets down to win in five sets, the longest match of his career so far.

Grigor Dimitrov advances at Wimbledon

Bulgarian tennis star Grigor Dimitrov advanced to the second round of the 2025 Wimbledon Championships with a solid win over Yoshihito Nishioka. The Bulgarian needed just under an hour and 40 minutes to secure a 6-2, 6-3, 6-4 victory. It marked his fourth consecutive win over the Japanese player without dropping a set.

Dimitrov began the match with a fast start, breaking early in the first set and adding another break before closing it out comfortably. In the following two sets, he managed to break in the later stages — the eighth game in the second and the ninth in the third — to maintain full control of the match.

The 34-year-old was dominant on serve, firing 26 aces and committing only 3 double faults. He won nearly all of his points at the net and lost just four points behind his first serve. His stats were impressive overall, finishing with 49 winners to 23 unforced errors.

Next, Dimitrov will face France’s Corentin Moutet in the second round. Moutet has won both of their previous encounters, including a dramatic comeback win from two sets down at Wimbledon in 2019. Dimitrov, a former semi-finalist at SW19, will be looking for payback this time around.

Carlos Alcaraz continues to make history at Wimbledon

Carlos Alcaraz began his 2025 Wimbledon campaign with a demanding five-set win over Fabio Fognini. The defending champion battled for over four hours to secure a 7-5, 6-7(5), 7-5, 2-6, 6-1 victory. Fognini, once ranked in the world’s top 10, put up a strong fight in what will be his final appearance at Wimbledon before retiring.

Although Alcaraz struggled to find his rhythm in parts of the match, he turned up the intensity in the fifth set to avoid an early exit. His ability to shift gears under pressure helped him recover and take control in the final stretch.

With this win, Alcaraz extended his winning streak to 19 matches, including recent titles in Rome, Roland Garros, and Queen’s Club. He has now won 13 straight matches on grass and improved his career record on the surface to 30-3, an impressive 90.9% win rate.

Notably, the 22-year-old became the fastest man in the Open Era to reach 30 ATP grass-court victories. He achieved the milestone in fewer matches than legends like Rod Laver, Tony Roche, John McEnroe, and Boris Becker.
