GTA IV vs. GTA V

Graphics

GTA 4 is set in Liberty City which is a real life inspiration of New York City whereas, GTA 5 is set in Los Santos, which is real life imitation of Los Angeles. Hence, scenically, GTA 4 has more buildings and skyscrapers in it. It gives a very serious look whereas the city of Los Santos serves the complete opposite purpose. It is much brighter and has beaches and tourists.

One thing that players complain about the graphics of GTA IV is the tone and the color scheme of the screenplay. Everything has a grey undertone to it and the overall look of the game just doesn’t appeal the players much. With the graphic advancement, GTA V has quite a bright and varied color scheme which makes it even more appealing.

Map

Since GTA IV is set in Liberty City which is a bustling working city. Hence the scene is mostly of skyscrapers, buildings and blue windows. The roads are narrower with a lot of streets. GTA V is comparatively more wider and spread apart.

One distinctive feature about the map is that in GTA IV, the protagonist cannot explore the entire map as it locked and is available only as the storyline goes further. On the contrary, in GTA V, the entire map is available for free roam for the player from the very beginning of the game. The map is blurred but the player can place the map legend on any desired location and just follow the map guidelines.

Another thing about the map is that in GTA IV, the player can enter any outdoor they wish to. All he building doors are accessible apart from the mission site buildings. The same doesn’t go for GTA V; not every interior is accessible and this is what upsets the players about GTA V.

Experience

There is a very contrasting difference between the storylines of both the games. GTA V’s plot is based on sarcasm and heist, whereas the story of GTA IV is based more on emotional scenarios and family. Sentimental players hence prefer playing GTA IV over GTA V because of its very heart touching storyline and cutscenes. In GTA V, the players get to play multiple heists whereas in GTA IV, one can learn multiple life lessons and conclusion from the actions taking place in the story.

GTA IV has missions with deeper meanings and more choices. Every choice leads the story in a different direction which makes the game even more enjoyable and suspense based. On the other hand, since GTA V is more humorous, it has multiple filler missions which do not have much importance but they are included just to continue the story. This is also because there are more characters to play within GTA V, making their lives playable and hence not every mission could be incorporated in a heavy manner.
