GTA Online’s Franklin and Lamar co-op option is now available to all users

GTA Online now has a special series of co-op missions starring Franklin and Lamar, with plenty of references to their antics in storey mode.

The GTA Online Short Trips tasks were formerly only available to players who had completed all of the missions in The Contract, which is no easy feat (much alone the qualifications, which include spending at least GTA$2 million on a new corporate building).

However, you may start playing with a co-op partner right now by going to the Jobs Menu and selecting Short Trips. You’ll also get double GTA$ and RP awards if you play until February 16th.

When you play the missions, you’ll briefly leave your own GTA Online character behind and take on the role of Franklin or Lamar instead. They’re a lot more communicative than the protagonist of GTA Online, and as they complete the three tasks, you’ll learn more about their lives since they were caught up with that dysfunctional but very ambitious heist team back in 2013.

To put it another way, Short Trips is the closest thing we’ll ever get to a GTA 5 narrative mode extension.

It’s not quite what we were hoping for when Rockstar first revealed GTA 5 single-player DLC in December 2013, but it’s still nice to have – especially now that everyone can play.
