Guardiola has “no doubts” over Jesus as City win 2-0 against Burnley
Pep Guardiola praised Gabriel Jesus for his recent performances for Manchester City. Jesus opened scoring for Manchester City in their 2-0 win over Burnley.
Sterling scored the 2nd goal for the Citizens as they stretched their unbeaten streak to 12 games. Manchester City are top of the Premier League, leading United by 3 points with a game in hand.
Aguero is currently out of action due to Covid
Jesus headed into an empty net in the 3rd minute after Burnley goalkeeper Pope could only parry out a shot from Bernardo Silva. Sterling doubled the lead by converting a close-range finish from a central position. He received a ball driven across the face of goal by Ilkay Gundogan in the 38th minute.
Guardiola reserved special praise for Jesus who scored in consecutive Premier league games for the first time this season. Aguero, City’s leading goal-scorer has tested positive for Covid-19 and will be out for a few more weeks. In his absence, Jesus scored his 7th goal of the season.
“For the team, but especially for him, the striker needs to score the goals,” said Guardiola.
“There are no doubts about Gabriel. Last game, he scored and got us the three points – and today, he started and played really good.
“We are delighted for Gabriel all the time. We need his goals – he knows it – but his contribution in many aspects is fantastic.”
Guardiola did not buy a striker in the winter transfer window putting his faith behind Aguero and Jesus. Jesus has done performed consistently so far and will hope to continue his form against Liverpool next, in a match which could define the Premier league title.
