On November 2nd, Cody Rhodes and Gunther will square off against each other in a champion vs. champion match at Crown Jewel. However, neither of their titles will be on the line. Instead, the winner of this match will be crowned the inaugural Crown Jewel Champion. For the first time ever, the two top stars spoke to each other inside the ring on the latest episode of Raw.

At first, Gunther lauded Rhodes for being the “quarterback” of WWE. The Ring General said that he had nothing horrible to say about his SmackDown counterpart. Of course, this was a lie, as he went on to bury the Undisputed WWE Champion for his recent events. Gunther felt that Rhodes’ habit of being nice to everyone led him nowhere, as evident by Kevin Owens‘ attack on him in the parking lot.

Although Gunther suggested otherwise, The American Nightmare believed that this was his biggest strength. Rhodes claimed that he has seen the World Heavyweight Champion ‘crumble’ before. Therefore, he would have no problem doing the same during their bout at Crown Jewel. In response, Gunther mocked The American Nightmare by calling him a “secondary champion.” Rhodes laughed it off, stating that he expected the Austrian wrestler to say that.

The former AEW wrestler listed his accomplishments as the two champions shook hands to close the segment. Despite the shots taken at each other, Gunther and Rhodes do seem to have mutual respect for one another. However, that goes out of the door in less than three weeks when they go one-on-one for the first time.

Cody Rhodes has a “Kevin Owens” problem on SmackDown

It is hard to argue against Gunther’s opinion about Cody Rhodes‘ tendency to always remain friendly with others. Especially after what has transpired in the last week or so. After defeating The Bloodline at Bad Blood, Kevin Owens finally snapped on his friend and attacked him in the parking lot.

On last week’s episode of SmackDown, KO attempted to explain his actions. This prompted Rhodes to come out as security officials separated both sides. Randy Orton tried to play peacemaker but ended up getting elbowed in the face by Owens. The Viper retaliated by punching the latter.

However, this would prove costly for Orton. Later on in the show, The Prizefighter ambushed the former WWE Champion backstage for picking the ‘wrong’ side in this fight. None of the parties involved in the situation have responded to Owens’ attack yet.
