This week’s Raw featured a stellar main event between Gunther and Sami Zayn for the World Heavyweight Championship. Following weeks of rising tensions between the two, they went out on a war to assert dominance over each other. However, in an unpleasant fashion, The Ring General defeated The Underdog on Raw.

The match kicked off on a high note where the challenger showed off every move from his arsenal. However, once the World Champion caught the groove, it was his show all along. He went on to decimate Zayn with a powerful power bomb, followed by a sleeper hold that choked him to defeat.

This was the golden opportunity that Sami Zayn was anticipating for the last few weeks. A heartbreaking loss at this point might mean the end of the story between him and Gunther. What’s more intriguing is that, following the match, the Austrian got an uninvited visit from the Undisputed Champion, Cody Rhodes. The two stars had an intense face-off to close out the show. From here on, it also became official that The American Nightmare and The Ring General will be facing each other at Crown Jewel next month.

As per an update during the recent edition of the Wrestling Observer Radio, WWE has no plans for a match between The Ring General and the WCW Icon as of now. In fact, the Stamford-based promotion doesn’t even see this as a possible match for Survivor Series or WrestleMania. Therefore, it could be said that it was planned as a one-off interaction between the two.

However, WWE CCO Triple H did not rule out the chances of this huge clash in WWE. Despite speculation of Goldberg squaring off against him at Crown Jewel, that match won’t be taking place due to the former Intercontinental Champion’s aforementioned bout against Cody Rhodes at the event.
