WrestleMania XL saw the fall of the Ring General at the hands of Sami Zayn. Gunther’s 666-day iconic reign came to an end in an instant classic showdown. What made it more enormous was that it was unexpected. After weeks of defeat, the former Intercontinental Champion has suggested a perfect candidate other than Zayn.

Speaking on the Gorilla Position, Gunther stated that for him, Chad Gable would have been the perfect man to end the reign. The Ring General mooted that Gable would have made a lot of sense in terms of storytelling and for the moment as well. However, he didn’t take anything away from Sami Zayn. The leader of the Imperium heavily praised the Underdog from the Underground.

I don't think there was one right person. I think there would have been a few options. Chad is the other one that would have made a lot of sense.

Also, the 36-year-old called it an outstanding feat to have such a hard-hitting match against Sami under the lights of WrestleMania. Therefore, he judged the ending of his title reign as successful. Although, for months, people had this feeling that it was Gable who was going to take down the Ring General. Fans rooted for him due to the connection they shared with his story and the personal legacy factor as well.

However, the story didn’t end for the leader of the Alpha Academy. He has embarked on a journey to capture the Intercontinental Championship with a change in attitude. As for Gunther, he has set his eyes on the bigger prize now by entering the King of the Ring tournament in 2024. With the mega match overdue, it feels exciting to see both of the stars going on a solo path from here on.

Gunther didn’t enjoy the product before Triple H’s regime

WWE has been on a roll lately. The product is better than ever, as they had the biggest WrestleMania of all time this year. With the shows going sold out and making records after records, it can be said that the current position of WWE is at its highest in the last few decades. Speaking on that, Gunther expressed his views over this new Paul Levesque era and revealed that he never enjoyed the product before the Game’s regime.

In the interview with the Gorilla Position, the Ring General said that the content before Triple H was in charge was quite out of the spectrum of his liking. He added that it was not the stuff that inspired him to come to the US and work for WWE. The former Intercontinental Champion spoke highly of the Cerebral Assasin for seeing the vision in him and capitalizing on that.

I don’t know, but it was one of the reasons why, for a long time I didn’t want to go to the US. The product before Triple H was not what I enjoyed. I just didn’t want to be part of that.

The iconic reign of Gunther was one of the main attractions of the King of King’s regime in WWE. He has elevated the product to another level ever since he took charge of content. The product before him was quite humor-based and catered to the young audience, with goofy segments filled all over the show. Taking it to now, it has been completely replaced with intense and personal storylines with mature segments.
