Gunther set to defend his World Heavyweight Championship against historic WWE champion at Saturday Night’s Main Event

Gunther continues his dominant run as the World Heavyweight Champion on Monday Night Raw. After successfully defending his title at Survivor Series against Damian Priest, he met his other challenger on the latest episode. The first-ever Universal Champion, Finn Balor, will challenge The Ring General for the coveted championship at Saturday Night’s Main Event, as announced during the show.
Gunther and Balor engaged in a heated confrontation on Raw last night where The Prince demanded his World Title opportunity. Following the confrontation, The Judgment Day member unleashed a brutal attack on the Austrian superstar following his match with Dominik Mysterio. A furious Adam Pearce later announced that this attack had prompted him to book a match between the two stars in Uniondale.
Gunther was furious with Balor’s actions on Raw, prompting him to demand a match against him at Saturday Night’s Main Event. Interestingly, this aligns with Balor’s own desire, as The Prince sought a reward for his unsolicited assistance to Gunther at Survivor Series. With the event just a week away, WWE appears to be escalating with this storyline.

Furthermore, Balor is embroiled in an intense feud with Damian Priest. While there were no signs of his presence on Raw, he could be on his way to make his grand return sooner than expected. With such a wild threat lurking for Balor, it will be intriguing to see how he will be focusing on the World Heavyweight Championship and Gunther from here on.
Gunther reveals why he disapproves Finn Balor’s help at Survivor Series
Gunther has been undergoing a massive character shift currently on Raw. Following his defeat against Cody Rhodes, he has been struggling to regain his confidence as a champion. He had high expectations in his match against Damian Priest. However, Finn Balor’s involvement ruined the taste of a clean victory for him at Survivor Series.
The Ring General expressed his frustration during the Survivor Series post-show, revealing that he intended his match against Priest to help him regain his confidence. However, Balor’s actions tarnished the victory. Gunther added that The Prince not only robbed him of the chance to redeem himself but also left a stain on his legacy as a champion.
I felt I was on the way to redeem myself, to myself. Finn Balor decided to take that away from me. Tonight was important, but there’s definitely a stain on it.
