The Haason Reddick saga looks far from seeing a quick resolve as the veteran linebacker demanded a trade from the New York Jets. It was quickly rejected.

Reddick continues to hold out from training with the Jets, asking for a better deal than what he signed following his trade from the Philadelphia Eagles earlier this year. He did not show up for the OTAs and remains a no-show, 21 days into training camp.

According to Jets beat reporter Connor Hughes, Reddick lost a total of $1.7 million, which might rise if the holdout doesn’t end soon. However, only a few days after the Jets’ pre-season win over Washington, the 29-year-old’s representatives told the Jets front office that their agent wanted a trade as per NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.

The New York Jets refused to entertain Haason Reddick’s trade request

Following the departure of Bryce Huff, who signed a three-year contract with the Eagles, Jets general manager Joe Douglas took Reddick off the Philly franchise’s hand, parting away with a conditional third-round pick. Both parties continued to engage in contract talks after his move, but failed to be on the same page.

The Athletic’s Zack Rosenblatt revealed hearing news about Reddick’s agent meeting with other teams before his unveiling as a Jets player. Some of those teams (names not revealed) reportedly were ready to pay in the range of $25 million a year.

Yet he still chose to sign with the Jets, and during his first press conference, he assured everyone that he was there to stay.

All options are open. Right now I’m just worried about being here, meeting everybody… [But] whatever happens, I’m going to be happy, I’m going to give my all no matter what because that’s just who I am as a person. No matter how it goes, how many years, I’m going to be here for however long I’m here for, and I’m going to give the team [the New York Jets], the fans, everything that I have.

While it’s unclear, the amount Reddick demanded from the Jets, judging by Rosenblatt’s report, perhaps the numbers could be similar. Soon after the trade request came in, the Jets shared a post on X (previously Twitter) that trade talks were out of the question.

We have informed Haason that we will not trade him, that he is expected to be here with his teammates, and that he will continue to be fined per the CBA if he does not report.
Joe Douglas’ statement read

It’s not rocket science to understand that Douglas and the Jets want Reddick to play for the gang green. In the two years he spent in Philly, he had 27 total sacks and 87 combined tackles. Their linebacker core is as thin as it can be, with CJ Mosley and Quincy Williams dividing playtime.
