Looks like New York Jets fans won’t have to wait too long to see the star linebacker Haason Reddick on the field as he and the franchise have finally come to an agreement to end his holdout and get him back in Green Gang jersey.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that the Jets and Reddick have agreed to an adjustment in the contract for this 2024 season. The franchise has also waived the fine imposed on him during the holdout. This contract adjustment is merely to assure him of a secured deal for this season and in the meantime, his agent Drew Rosenhaus, and the Jets front office will work for a long-term extension.

We will continue to work towards a long-term extension with the Jets.

Drew Rosenhaus told Adam Schefter on Sunday

Reddick’s contract drama has been going on since this offseason when the Jets acquired him through a trade deal with the Philadelphia Eagles. He agreed to the deal with the expectation of receiving a new contract from the team. However, he chose to hold out when that contract did not materialize. As a result, he faced significant fines exceeding $12 million for missing all the team events, including the six regular season games.

The edge rusher is set to report to the Jets practice on Monday as they prepare for their second game in the absence of head coach Robert Saleh and week 7 game against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Jets owner Woody Johnson confirms no plans to trade Haason Reddick

The news about the adjusted contract came swiftly after the trade rumors as Detroit Lions and Arizona Cardinals were speculated to be potential landing spots for the linebacker. However, with this new contract, not only the trade rumors are dismissed but owner Woody Johnson also exclaimed that he never planned to trade Reddick.

SNY’s Connor Hughes reported earlier in July that the Jets offered a one-year contract to the two-time Pro Bowler but it wasn’t to his liking so he turned it down. Since then, the franchise and his agent have been working to cook up a deal to his preference as Johnson shared that he was “very involved in working this out.”

The Jets are currently standing with a poor season record of 2-4. For the offense, they acquired veteran star Davante Adams but they needed to optimize their defense, especially after the departure of Saleh. That’s why working out Reddick’s contract had become crucial for them and fortunately for them, it worked out well.
