The New York Jets acquired linebacker Haason Reddick with high hopes this offseason, but immediately after joining them, he announced his hold-out demanding a renowned contract instead of his previous one with the Philadelphia Eagles. It’s been several months and his hold-out is nowhere close to ending.
This week, things took a surprising turn when his agency reportedly parted ways with Reddick, leaving behind a shocking revelation about his hold-out. Sources told NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport that the pass-rusher’s holdout could have ended long ago if only he had accepted the one-year offer made by New York.
Given that the two-time Pro Bowler is fined $8 million for missing the first five games and other team events of this season, the one-year deal with the Jets would have saved him from this and provided him with a lucrative sum–even more than what he was “originally scheduled to earn.”
However, the amount wasn’t enough for Reddick, who’s said to make $14.25 million this season, and he declined the offer. He is looking for a multi-year deal with New York with a lucrative sum that would make him one of the highest-paying pass-rushers in the league.
Owner Woody Johnson urges Haason Reddick to join the team
Unfortunately, at present, there’s no room within the Jets’ budget to fulfill Reddick’s demands and that’s why, they moved on from the negotiation, hoping for him to eventually return to the field.
And looks like the clock is ticking for the linebacker as owner Woody Johnson, who recently fired head coach Robert Saleh, requested Reddick to show up for New York.
Johnson openly addressed Reddick on camera and told him, that if he decides to show up for his team, he would be welcomed with open arms forgetting the whole holding-out drama. It would be interesting to see Reddick’s reaction to the whole thing, given that if he still continues holding out, there’s a chance the Jets would eventually get frustrated.
