“When your agent fires you, you know you’re screwed” – Haason Reddick’s holdout takes a twist as CAA cuts ties amid Jets’ contract dispute; fans react

Haason Reddick‘s holdout has taken an unexpected turn. The agency that helped Reddick strike a deal with the New York Jets decided to cut ties with the veteran edge rusher.
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Creative Artists Agency announced ending ties with Haason Reddick on Thursday. This comes after Jets owner Woody Johnson publicly requested the 30-year-old to end his holdout, which began right after his first media appearance for the Gang Green.
CAA’s Tory Dandy and Jimmy Sexton brokered the deal between the Jets and Reddick in March. However, since then he has refused to show up for training or take part in any of the five games so far.

Football fans react to CAA cutting ties with Haason Reddick
According to reports from Rich Cimini and Zack Rosenblatt, Reddick has not only missed valuable game time but also a considerable amount of money as a penalty for not attending any Jets activity. Reddick signed for a base salary of $14.25 million. It was supposed to be guaranteed money if the Jets had included him in the Week 1 roster, which of course never happened.
Additionally, the Jets fined him a total of $8 million for not honoring his contract. With CAA out of the picture, the situation has become even more complicated. NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo speculated that the sudden development might mean that it was Reddick perhaps acting alone when he decided to hold out.
His agency has been trying to broker a deal. Reddick has been dug in. The philosophical differences has now led to a parting of ways. https://t.co/1FdEVkmDfo

The wording of this is critical.

CAA parted with Reddick — not the other way around.
Was told when Reddick’s holdout began that he made the decision not to report to the #Jets himself. It was not advice from his reps. https://t.co/sPtOAojsKs
Understandably, football fans also had to give their take on this new development.
lol how does your agent fire you?

Haason Reddick has made this decision to sit out this long himself, & his agency is now parting ways with him, per @AdamSchefter
Clearly they agree he's being foolish, but obviously he's dug in
So how do you think this all plays out❓#Jets pic.twitter.com/zjmBP9Saik
No agent would tell a player to forfeit $800,000 a week in a sport with short careers and no guaranteed contracts.

Likely that CAA has told him to report; he has said no, and they have said "we can't help you anymore." https://t.co/Pwb4m890wQ

It's not unprecedented, but pretty rare that a big agency cuts ties with a player, rather than the other way around. Good example of how sideways this situation has been. https://t.co/cHtp6Mlw5V

Haason Reddick turning down millions to play football is like a shoplifter caught red-handed refusing to “just pay for the candy bar" because he thinks he can convince a jury it just fell into his pocket. https://t.co/hpCPNP5USx

If the 2x Pro Bowler remains absent for the rest of the year, it’ll cost him approximately $21.75 million, as per Spotrac. This includes the $14.25 million base salary, $4.5 million in fines, and $3 million in discretionary bonus forfeiture.
Now the ball is in Reddick’s court. If the holdout continues, then the Jets would eventually cut him loose. However, he can listen to Johnson’s appeal and come back to the Jets, which will undoubtedly help their pass-rushing game with CJ Mosley on the sidelines.
Reddick is one of the most consistent performers in his position. Until the 2023 season, he recorded 410 tackles, sacked quarterbacks 58 times, 19 pass deflections forced 17 fumbles, and 5 returns.
