Hakim Ziyech- The Wizard of Chelsea
When Frank Lampard bought Hakim Ziyech for $35 million from Ajax, a lot of pundits said he won’t be able to cope up with the pace of the PL. He’s too slow, physicality isn’t up to the mark were some of the concerns.
Well how he has proven them wrong. Ziyech created an astonishing 6 chances in the match against Sheffield United. It’s the highest anyone has done this season. Let’s dive in to take a look at his wizardry.
What makes Hakim Ziyech so good?
One of Ziyech’s prized assets is his killer left foot. He cleverly creates space in front of him to whip in a cross at the far post. This is something which helped him massively in the Eredivisie for Ajax as well.
The combination of him with David Neres or Quincy Promes worked wonders for Eric ten Haag. And it’s doing the same for Frank Lampard.
Another thing Chelsea were definitely missing out on was the delivery in set pieces. After the departure of the Eden Hazard, the blues were reliant on Willian for the corners . And the Brazilian’s delivery was more often than not only up till the first man.
However with Ziyech in, they can consistently get brilliant balls in to head home. Just like Thiago Silva got in the match against Sheffield United. Moreover he assisted Ben Chilwell’s goal at the far post too.
Hakim Ziyech has started just four times for Chelsea till date. He’s bagged 3 MOTM, 2 goals and 4 assists in that short time frame. It’s no doubt that the Moroccan is bringing in an instant impact to the team.
The Blues have longed for a left footed right winger and have their thirst finally quenched. Hakim certainly does have all the qualities to take it to the next level. But as all things; only time will tell if he properly flourish in Chelsea blue.
