Yankees owner Hal Steinbrenner BOLDLY claims team has ability to sign any player following ‘very honest’ talks with Juan Soto
New York Yankees owner Hal Steinbrenner claimed they have the financial capabilities to sign anyone after having a meeting with Juan Soto.

The Juan Soto free agency saga, at the moment, is the number one trending topic in MLB. The New York Yankees are one of the teams who are locked in the rumored $600 million sweepstakes of him. Team owner Hal Steinbrenner boldly claimed that the team has the power and ability to sign any player after having a ‘very honest‘ talks with him.
A few days ago, Soto met with the representatives of the Toronto Blue Jays and the Boston Red Sox. It was reported that the two teams made “good impressions” on him. The four-time All-Star and his agent, Scott Boras then met with Steinbrenner.
As per the New York Post, the meeting between Steinbrenner and Soto lasted for a couple of hours. The report claimed that the meeting was a ‘very honest‘ and ‘back-and-forth dialogue‘ between the parties.
Following the conclusion of the 2024 season, the Yankees decided to let Anthony Rizzo, Gleyber Torres, Clay Holmes, and Alex Verdugo to enter free agency. This move has allowed the Yankees to clear $46 million of their 2024 payroll.
Steinbrenner would later claim that the team has the financial capabilities to sign any player after adding that they are in a much better starting position now than they were a year ago.

As per reports, no financial decisions have so far been taken in the meeting with Juan Soto. In the upcoming days he is expected to meet with the Philadelphia Phillies as well.
Hal Steinbrenner admits re-signing Juan Soto is a ‘priority’ for NY Yankees
In his showdown with the media, New York Yankees Hal Steinbrenner was pressed with several questions regarding Juan Soto. The American business admitted that re-signing him is a ‘priority‘ for the team this offseason.
In the race for Soto, several teams including the New York Mets, rivals of the Yankees, are considered favorites to land him. This has put pressure on the shoulders of Steinbrenner. He confessed that he understood the pressure and claimed that the team listens to the fans.

Aaron Boone, Brian Cashman, Randy Levine and Omar Minaya were present at the meeting. Steinbrenner also went onto quote that he understands fans want Soto back.

Soto had a fantastic 2024 season with the Yankees as he took charge of the offense. He hit 41 home runs in the regular season and had 109 RBI while batting with a .288 average. In the postseason, he hit four home runs and had 9 RBI with a .327 batting average. These performances led him to being named as a Silver Slugger and earned him a nomination for the American League MVP.
