According to sources who spoke to ESPN’s Shams Charania, Dwight Howard was chosen as a first-ballot member of the 2025 Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame Class. Dwight Howard, a 2025 Hall of Fame inductee, has played in China and Europe since departing the Lakers in 2021. Now, the former Los Angeles Lakers player has been enjoying his time off basketball lately.

Despite quitting the NBA years ago, the basketball inside Howard has not left him as he showed off his skills in a recent 1v1 against famous asian streamer Ray, a close friend of Kai Cenat. Ray challenged Howard to a 1v1 battle on his live stream. It’s safe to say that it did not end up well for Ray, as Howard completely dominated him.

In addition, Howard did not stop there. He further went on to taunt Ray on his own stream in front of his audience. Now, one would think Howard would stop here, but there’s more to come from the Hall of Famer. He also took to his X to throw shade on the 1v1 shooting competition with Ray.

Aside from this, Howard was one of the best in his time as a pro basketball player. Leading the Orlando Magic to the 2009 NBA Finals, winning three straight Defensive Player of the Year Awards, and being selected to the All-NBA first team for five years in a row was the apex of Howard’s career.

He had the largest impact on the Magic’s history from 2007–08 to 2011–12, averaging 20.6 points, 13.9 rebounds, and 2.5 blocks per game. He remains one of just four individuals to have earned DPOY a minimum of three times, along with Rudy Gobert, Ben Wallace, and Dikembe Mutombo. In 2008, Howard also delivered one of the NBA’s best Slam Dunk Contest efforts ever.

Former NBA player Jermaine O’Neal had a ‘unique’ take regarding Dwight Howard and the Lakers

The acquisition of a starting-caliber center who can run the floor in transition, grab rebounds, dunk off lob passes, and shut down the paint defensively is the Los Angeles Lakers’ primary priority this offseason.
A few players, most of whom are still quite young and might play with Luka Doncic for the foreseeable future, have already been connected to them.

However, former NBA player Jermaine O’Neal had one of the wildest takes regarding this matter on the NightCap show alongside Shannon Sharpe. O’Neal claimed that the Lakers should sign their former player, Dwight Howard, for the centre role, some take, isn’t it?

I don’t know why the NBA is getting away from the veterans. I’d use Dwight Howard. He always seems to be in shape… He’s one of the best defenders of all time to come down to protecting the rim and rebounding that basketball.

Jermaine O’Neal said

Howard is just not able to give the team what it requires at center, and he will turn 40 in December. In addition, the team needs to sign a young center who can play with Doncic for some time rather than one who is toward the conclusion of his career, because Doncic is 26 years old and will be a free agent next summer.

Dwight Howard made a bold claim regarding the 2020 Lakers’ roster

The Los Angeles Lakers suffered a severe decline after winning the NBA title in 2020, leading to disappointing performances in the following two seasons. This led to their GM, Rob Pelinka, making major changes to the roster. Now, Dwight Howard recently stated that he could have gotten LeBron James 2 more rings if Pelinka were to keep the same team.

Man, Rob, why’d you do us like that? We could’ve won us two more. We coulda won two more, then everybody coulda retired. LeBron coulda been done retired, man.

Dwight Howard said on the Above the Rim Podcast

Howard joined the Philadelphia 76ers in free agency after the Lakers decided not to re-sign him in the offseason following their 2020 NBA championship. Other significant changes occurred, but Kentavious Caldwell-Pope was still on the roster. Other notable exits were Danny Green, Rajon Rondo, and Avery Bradley. All in all, the Lakers completely fell off since the players left.
