Barcelona manager Hansi Flick faces a two-match touchline ban after being sent off during the club’s 2-2 draw against Real Betis. The German manager was left highly frustrated after Barca were held to their second draw of the ongoing La Liga season.
Hansi Flick was shown a straight red card for protesting against the referee’s decision during the match. He was sent to the stands in the 60th minute, following an angry reaction to a penalty that was awarded against his side.
The penalty was awarded after Betis forward Vitor Roque was fouled inside the box by Frenkie de Jong. VAR upheld referee Alejandro Muniz Ruiz’s decision, something which irked Flick. Giovanni Lo Celso later converted the spot-kick to allow Betis to make it 1-1.
The red card is expected to lead to a two-match ban, keeping Hansi Flick away from the sidelines for Barca’s next La Liga matches against Leganes and Atletico Madrid. The German manager, who has guided Barca’s resurgence this season, expressed his confusion over the incident while admitting that he was sent off unfairly.
However, the referee’s pot-match report claimed that Flick had left the technical area shouting and gesticulating. Flick will be handed a suspension based on La Liga’s Disciplinary Code.

Meanwhile, the draw against Real Betis led to the Catalan club losing their four-point lead on top of the La Liga table. They are now just two points ahead of second-placed Real Madrid. Flick, however, will remain on the sidelines for Barcelona’s UCL encounter against Dortmund.
Hansi Flick demands consistency from his side Barcelona following dismal outing against Real Betis
Barcelona were held to a dismal 2-2 draw by Real Betis, bringing their brilliant run under new manager Hansi Flick to a temporary halt. They have now been left vulnerable at the top of the table, with arch-rivals Real Madrid just two points behind in second place.
The Catalan side lost their lead twice against Betis. Hansi Flick has since urged his side to show their quality on a more consistent basis while focusing on improvements following the match.
The German stated that his side must be stronger during away games. He also noted the misses during their match against Betis, including slow passing and too many aerial balls, things that aren’t Barca’s strengths.
Barcelona, moreover, became the club to drop the most points from winning positions in the league this season. The Catalan giants did enjoy a brilliant start to their La Liga campaign this season, winning seven matches in a row at the start.
