IPL 2021: Harbhajan Singh to make his debut for Kolkata Knight Riders against Sunrisers Hyderabad
Harbhajan Singh
Indian spin-bowling icon Harbhajan Singh was handed his debut for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) for the match against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). The 40-year-old did not feature in last year’s IPL where he was a part of the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) franchise due to personal reasons. He was subsequently released by the side before being acquired by KKR for a sum of Rs. 2 crores at the auction.
Harbhajan Singh has not official announced his retirement from international cricket but his chances of making it back to the team seem very slim at the moment. However, the IPL would provide him a good platform to showcase his experience and make a name for himself towards the fag end of his career. The match against SRH would thus be keenly watched by fans of the spinners as to how his return to competitive cricket would be.
Sunrisers Hyderabad opt to bowl
Meanwhile, David Warner, the captain of SRH won the toss and chose to field saying, “We’re bowling first. This wicket will play a little different, it’s a lot drier. There wasn’t much dew in the last training session, and so that won’t make much of a difference. We know what we can chase to be honest, and we prefer doing that. Our foreign players are myself, Rashid Khan, Nabi and Jonny Bairstow.”
Eoin Morgan said, “I haven’t looked at the coach dynamic, but they have been magnificent in the background. We missed out narrowly last year with qualifying so we will try and go one better this time. Our four foreign players are Russell, Shakib, Cummins and myself (Morgan).“
