The IPL 2025 mega auction is fast approaching and teams are getting ready to finalize their retention names. Just like other franchises, Delhi Capitals are also getting ready to finalize their names for retentions. The teams have to inform the BCCI soon before the deadline. Reports say that Capitals won’t be retaining their captain, Rishabh Pant.
Former India off-spinner, Harbhajan Singh, has talked about the same and said that if he was part of the management, then he would have liked to retain Pant ahead of the upcoming mega auction. The Capitals are yet to win their first IPL title and hence will desperately need to form a good squad in the upcoming auction.
Capitals did not qualify for the playoffs in the previous edition of the tournament as they finished at the sixth position after the end of the league stage of the tournament. They won seven games and also lost seven games in the group stage.
Earlier Delhi Capitals sacked Ricky Ponting from the position of Head Coach
Ahead of the upcoming season, the Capitals have also parted ways with their former Head Coach, Ricky Ponting, who has now become the Head Coach of the Punjab Kings. Hemang Badani and Venugopal Rao have joined the franchise as Head Coach and Director of Cricket, respectively.
The Capitals will hope to form a formidable squad in the upcoming mega auction and will aim to get their first IPL title. They have been trying hard for the last few seasons, and have changed their franchise names and also the captain, but haven’t earned the success that they were looking for.
Meanwhile, Pant is currently in the middle of a three-match home Test series against New Zealand. He will travel with the Indian squad to Australia for the upcoming five Test match series in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25.
