It has been five years since MS Dhoni last featured in the Indian threads and yet the legacy he left behind in the international circuit has been downright overwhelming. He established himself as one of the finest wicket-keepers of all time, being named in the same breath as that of icons of the art while his finishing skills with the bat were equally impeccable.
In a social media post where a Pakistani user took to X formerly known as Twitter, trying to compare MS Dhoni and Mohammad Rizwan, former Indian off-spinner, Harbhajan Singh came lashing on all cylinders, silencing him once and for all. Despite acknowledging Rizwan’s batting flair, Singh made it clear that not even by an iota of a chance do the two belong to the same league.
What r u smoking nowadays ???? What a silly question to ask . Bhaiyo isko batao [brother tell him] . DHONI bhut aage hai RIZWAN se [Dhoni is far ahead of Rizwan] Even if u will ask Rizwan he will give u an honest answer for this . I like Rizwan he is good player who always play with intent.. but this comparison is wrong. DHONI no 1 even today in world cricket . None better thn him behind stumps.Harbhajan Singh wrote on X, responding to the user
Keeping the numbers aside, the sheer presence of Dhoni as the captain of the Indian cricket team in the shorter formats of the game was a massive boost to the Men in Blue. His cricketing acumen laced with his ice-cool temperament was a burning testimony to the greatness of the former Indian captain. He captained India to the 2007 T20 World Cup, the 2011 World Cup and the 2013 ICC Champions Trophy.
