Indian Cricket Team were facing the heat when they arrived in Australia for the five-match Test series in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024/25. They lost the three-match Test series against New Zealand at home and were staring at the brink of elimination from qualification to the WTC final. However, the team, without the presence of captain Rohit Sharma, defeated Australia by 295-runs in the first Test at the Optus Stadium in Perth.
Former Indian cricketer, Harbhajan Singh feels that if India can win the next Test in Adelaide, they will certainly qualify for the World Test Championship final in 2025. Bhajji feels that Perth win was an important victory for Team India because it has been a dominant ground for Pat Cummins‘ side.
He feels that it is always a memorable victory to beat Australia at their home ground but winning in Perth is more memorable because the Aussies consider the ground as their fortress.
India needs to win the series 4-0 to have a chance of qualifying for the final without depending on others. India lost their first Test series at home with the 3-0 whitewash against the Kiwis. It was also their first Test series whitewash at home since the time they started playing Test cricket.
Harbhajan Singh heaped praise on Jasprit Bumrah
Jasprit Bumrah has been the best bowler across formats for quite some time in international cricket. He has all the skills in his armoury and destroyed the Autralian batting line-up in Perth with eight wickets in the match.
Harbhajan said that he has always been a huge supporter of the Indian pacer and heaped praise on his personality. He talked about the game-reading sense of the Indian pacer who chipped in as the captain of the team in the absence of Sharma.
Sharma missed the first Test of the series due to the birth of his baby boy but is set to be back for the Pink ball Test in Adelaide on December 6. India won the practice game against Prime Minister’s XI. Shubman Gill scored a half-century, but Sharma failed to score runs with the bat on his first outing in this tour.
