Harbhajan Singh hits back at Michael Vaughan for blaming Guyana for England’s loss against India

Harbhajan Singh slams Michael Vaughan as he rues venue choice for the India vs England semifinal.

India managed to beat England by 68 runs in the second semifinal of the T20 World Cup 2024 in Guyana. However, the talk of the town has been India’s venue for the semifinal: Guyana. Guyana is historically the most spin friendly wicket in the Carribean. As India finished first in the their respective group of the Super 8, they should have played their first semifinal in Trinidad, which was a night game.

However, ICC had already pre-decided that if India qualifies for the semifinal, irrespective of their standings, they will play in Guyana due to it being a day game. India are only playing day matches in this tournament to cater for the broadcasting prime time back in India. However, former players like Michael Vaughan, has constantly taken a dig at the ICC for favouring India with the venue choice.

Even after England’s loss to India, he rued the missed opportunity of not beating South Africa in the Super 8 and finishing first in the group to play against Afghanistan in Trinidad. However, he again took a subtle dig against India for their venue being Guyana.

If England had beaten SA they would have got the Trinidad semi and I believe they would have won that game .. So no complaints they haven’t been good enough .. But Guyana has been a lovely venue pick for India.

Michael Vaughan has continued to take a dig against India ahead of the semi final in the T20 World Cup 2024

Ahead of the semifinal, Vaughan came down hard against the BCCI and the ICC, claiming that the ICC gives undue advantage to the Indian team. He talked about the fact that there was no reserve day for India’s game in the semifinal. Indian fans have often criticized him as he has even complained about the pitches in India during the India vs England test series, instead of focusing on the flaws of his own team.

Coming to the game, India beat England by 68 runs. Batting first, India scored 171 runs in their 20 overs riding on the innings from Rohit Sharma (57 off 36) and Suryakumar Yadav (47 off 36). In reply, England were bowled out for just 103 runs in 16.4 overs. India will face off against South Africa in the final in Barbados.
