The Indian Women’s cricket team ended its long wait for a maiden World Cup trophy on Sunday, after defeating South Africa by 52 runs in the final of the 2025 edition at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai. The Women in Blue staged an impressive comeback after finishing fourth in the group stage standings, defeating seven-time champions Australia in the semi-final to make their way to the summit clash.
India suffered three back-to-back group stage defeats at the 2025 World Cup, as a result of which the team was down on morale and had to deal with social media trolling and criticism. However, the team defied expectations, ultimately emerging out as winners. Once the celebrations were over in Mumbai, the Indian Women’s cricket team traveled to New Delhi for a scheduled meeting with PM Narendra Modi at his official residence at Lok Kalyan Marg.
During the visit, all the players engaged in a warm interaction with the Prime Minister. What began as a formal discussion took a lighthearted turn when all-rounder Harleen Deol posed a spontaneous query to the PM, instantly sending her teammates into fits of laughter.
After being personally praised by PM Modi for her vibrant nature, Deol asked the PM about the secret behind his ever-glowing skin, specifically requesting details about his skincare routine.
Sir, your skin is always glowing. Can you please tell me what is your skincare routine? –

All-rounder Sneh Rana, who was seated among her teammates, promptly added that the love that the Prime Minister receives from the millions of people in India is the secret behind the glow on his skin. PM Modi replied:
I do not think about all that.
Head coach Amol Muzumdar acknowledged the situation by jokingly telling the PM that he himself had been facing such types of queries for the past two years, resulting in his hair turning white. Nonetheless, all the players shared pictures capturing their memorable moments together with the Indian PM.
PM Narendra Modi wins hearts by personally serving food to injured cricketer Pratika Rawal
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi won hearts for his warm gesture towards cricketer Pratika Rawal, who has been struggling with an injury that she sustained during India’s 2025 World Cup campaign. She attended the Indian Women’s team’s interaction with Modi, following their WC win.

Pratika Rawal finished as India’s second highest run-getter, with 308 runs in six innings at an average of 51.33, having forged a partnership with Smriti Mandhana. However, the 25-year-old fractured her right ankle after falling awkwardly while fielding in India’s final group stage game against Bangladesh, which ultimately ruled her out of the tournament, with Shafali Verma stepping in as a replacement.
Rawal, attending the interaction with Prime Minister Modi in New Delhi, explained how team bonding motivated the Women in Blue to the title. While at lunch, PM Modi noticed Rawal struggling to take food from the counters, which prompted him to step forward to help. He asked wheelchair-bound Rawal about the dish she would love to have, before gently serving it to her.
Meanwhile, members of the victorious Indian Women’s cricket team also posed for pictures with Prime Minister Modi and the World Cup trophy. All-rounder Amanjot Kaur was in fact lauded for her gesture of handing over her winners’ medal to injured Rawal, who missed out.
