Harrison Butker remains unfazed in the face of continued criticism from the masses. The placekicker for the Kansas City Chiefs has been in the limelight since his controversial commencement speech at Benedictine College. He had remained silent and refused to make any public statements to follow up after his speech. However, Butker responded with a bang as he returned to the podium on Friday at the Courage Under Fire Gala at the Regina Caeli Academy.
Butker has now become an icon amongst traditional Catholic institutes. The kicker was invited to deliver a sermon in Nashville, Tennessee and he used it to double down on his earlier statements and send the message that he is not backing down.
He used the stage to point out the increasing hate for traditional Catholic values.
If it wasn’t clear that the timeless Catholic values are hated by many, it is now. Over the past few days, my beliefs, or what people think I believe, have been the focus of countless discussions around the globe. In my seven years in the NFL, I’ve become familiar with positive and negative comments. But the majority of them revolve around my performance on the field…the more I’ve talked about what I value most, my Catholic faith, the more polarizing I’ve become. It’s a decision I’ve consciously made, and one I do not regret at all.
Harrison Butker said
Butker’s commencement speech caused a stir after he took a jibe at President Biden over the antisemitism bill and for being pro-abortion, essentially dubbed the lockdowns imposed in lieu of the COVID pandemic as a hoax, and attempted to convince women that the most fruitful part of their life is being homemakers and raising kids.
Harrison Butker has not been penalized by the Chiefs or the NFL over his comments
The placekicker believes until now, he was judged for his performance on the field but had never been looked at as a polarizing figure. But the moment he decided to speak his mind, all hell breaks loose and he is suddenly looked at as a controversial individual to have in the locker room. Many have gone as far as to circulate petitions demanding the Kansas City Chiefs dismiss Butker over his opinions.
Throughout his speech, he continued to thank Christ and expressed his gratitude to his supporters who reached out and stood with him while he was receiving all the criticism. He stated that none of the hate that has been thrown his way compares to the “courage many saints have shown in their lives.”
Butker is being criticized for sharing his personal opinions and beliefs, something that is rather ridiculous. He is not forcing his beliefs down the throats of people, all he did was iterate the philosophy that he lives his life by.

However, since his traditional beliefs contradict modern values and lifestyle, he continues to be criticized. His teammates Travis Kelce and Patrick Mahomes distanced themselves from this fiasco by classifying the views expressed by the kicker as his own but did acknowledge the fact that he is a great person and this does not change that. The NFL on the other hand was quick to distance itself from Butker by making it clear that the league does not share the same opinions as him.
