In a recent interaction with the press, England captain Harry Kane answered questions regarding the recent criticism and pressure put on his team by many. A significant source of criticism was former Manchester United player and England international Gary Lineker.
Having made 80 appearances and bagging 48 goals himself, Gary Lineker knows a thing or two about the big stage himself. Harry Kane‘s earnest reply to the footballing legend has gone viral on social media.
I don't want to disrespect any player who's worn the shirt and knows what it's like to play for England. Ex-players who are pundits now need to realize that it's difficult not to listen to them.Harry Kane said in a press conference
Kane reminded his audience that Lineker and many others before him have also struggled to win a major international trophy before him.
All I would say is, remember what it is like to wear the shirt and that their words are listened to. Some of the lads... I don’t know how many, but we do hear it.Harry Kane added
England play their final game in Group C against Slovenia as the UEFA Euro Group stages come to an end. The Three Lions find themselves in pole position to qualify from the group even though their performances have been largely underwhelming for many. From former footballers to fans and pundits, many claim that Gareth Southgate‘s men should do ‘better’ in their upcoming games.
£105 million England midfielder shares his take on criticism from former English players
Representing The Three Lions at the 2024 Euros in Germany is undoubtedly one of the must nerve racking jobs on the planet. It is near impossible to ignore a country’s hopes of securing a major international trophy after coming up short on so many recent occasions. England midfielder and Arsenal’s main man Declan Rice opened up about the recent criticism and censure from former England players.
No. I'm not disappointed because I've played football long enough to understand how they work. I really don't get bothered at all. I don't know why this feels like such a negative thing.Declan Rice told ITV Sport
Rice assured that even though he knew a few of these pundits personally, it was confusing that they criticized players for something they personally failed to achieve. The Arsenal man urged that the mood within the team should be positive ahead of the knockouts.
Rice wanted their best players to feel like they are the best in the world in order to perform for the big games. However, the sad reality is that the remarks are often more negative than they are positive. It isn’t the first time that players like Bukayo Saka and Declan Rice have been the point of discussion for England’s poor performances.
