Harry Kane surpassed an incredible record that stood the test of time with four brilliant goals against Croatian side Dinamo Zagreb on the first day of the 2024-25 UEFA Champions League. Bayern Munich put on a super show as they obliterated Zagreb with a clinical show of dominion at the Allianz Arena.
Harry Kane became the Englishman with the most goals (33) in the history of the Champions League, leapfrogging Wayne Rooney’s tally of 30 goals. Since moving to Bayern Munich, Kane has scored 53 goals in 50 games across all competitions.
Kane started his and Bayern’s goal-fest from the penalty spot in the 18th minute. Sending Ivan Nevistic the wrong way, he calmly slotted the ball into the right corner. After a bit of nerves for the German stalwarts where the Croats were able to reduce the deficit to 3-2 following the substitution of Manuel Neuer, Kane’s second strike eased the nerves. The Englishman poked home a rebound after Nevistic could only parry Joshua Kimmich’s hit.
Kane completed his hat-trick from the spot in the 72nd minute. He then stepped up for another penalty five minutes later as the Bavarians took an unassailable lead. Apart from Kane’s four goals, Michael Olise netted a brace while Raphael Guerreiro, Leroy Sane, and Leon Goretzka scored one goal apiece to complete the 9-2 rout of Dinamo Zagreb.
Harry Kane reveals why he loves to take the hat-trick balls home
This was Harry Kane’s second consecutive hattrick, a testimony to the razor-sharp striking that the Englishman possesses. In his post-match presser, Kane pointed out that he takes home all the hat-trick balls as his son loves to play with them.
I keep all the balls after hat-tricks! The lads might be sick of signing them, but keep them coming. My son Louis, he loves playing football right now. I'll take it home and put it next to his bed and he'll be happy when he wakes up in the morning!Harry Kane said
Bayern Munich will next be up against Werder Bremen in the Bundesliga followed by a clash against Bayer Leverkusen. They will resume Champions League action on October 3 when they take on Premier League side Aston Villa.
