Harry Kane may not have won a senior trophy in his entire career. However, the world class striker showed just how big of a character he is as he came up against his former side Tottenham Hotspur. Bayern Munich got the better of Spurs as they played out a tense game at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Saturday.
Kane captained the German giants as goals from Dayot Upamecano, Serge Gnabry and Thomas Muller sealed the deal for the visitors. As Bayern prepared to lift the friendly trophy following the game, cameras captured a moment of respect from the former Spurs skipper.
As a show of respect, Kane was seen taking off the captain’s armband and handing it to Joshua Kimmich. As for Spurs, this is the second time the Premier League club are coming up short against the Bavarians.
With the end of pre-season, Ange Postecoglou‘s men will kick off their League campaign with a trip to King Power Stadium against newly promoted Leicester City.
Fans react to Harry Kane refusing to lift a trophy against his former side
The internet may not be a fan of ‘trophyless’ Harry Kane. However, fans were thoroughly impressed by the 31-year-old’s decision to not lift a trophy against his former side for which he devoted 14 years of his career for. A fan commented that Kane’s image as a Tottenham Hotspur legend was personified by his gesture.
Another added that his decision to do so was rather motivated by his lack of experience in lifting a title and not otherwise. A supporter claimed that Bayern were definitely on track to win titles and end Kane’s trophy ‘curse’ once and for all. A fan joked that Spurs somehow found a way to ‘rob’ the forward of his happiness once again.
Bayern Munich are yet to lose a single game in pre-season. With 3 wins and a draw in their last four games, Bayern will take on WSG Tirol in a friendly before kicking off the campaign with a game in the DFB-Pokal again SSV Ulm. After a disappointing League campaign paired with a heartbreaking loss in the Champions League, Bayern will be out for ‘blood’ this season.
