Manchester United star Harry Maguire opened up for the first time about his future at the club, following new manager Ruben Amorim’s appointment. The 31-year-old revealed details of his contract extension, after Amorim recently revealed that his formation suits the center-back.
Harry Maguire had made a sensational transfer move from Leicester City back in 2019. The Englishman was able to play for 90 minutes for the first time since September, as Ruben Amorim surprisingly included him in the starting XI in the 2-1 win over Manchester City. He was crucial as he helped lock down City front-man Erling Haaland throughout the match. Following Maguire’s standout display against Man City, Ruben Amorim stated that his 3-4-3 system perfectly suits Maguire, who can play in the middle.
The ex-Red Devils skipper, following the head coach’s recent admission, revealed that there are talks ongoing for a contract extension. It clearly depicts a u-turn from what the club had previously intended to do. The Englishman, in a recent interview, stated that he does not think much about his future at the club, despite having a year left in his contract. However, he added that there is a lot of positivity surrounding his stay beyond 2025. He also confirmed that positive talks have taken place with the club’s owners.
All the signs are positive at the moment and the chat that I’m having is really positive. I’ve still got this year to go with an option in their hands.

Nonetheless, it remains to be seen what lies ahead of the English center-back. He had been subject to a lot of speculation of late. Man Utd had reportedly tried to offload him during the last summer transfer window.
Manchester United defender Harry Maguire’s career over the years
Harry Maguire has been one of the most talked about English players over the last decade. The 31-year-old center-back had made a move to United back in 2019, after emerging out at EPL side Leicester City during the 2018-19 season.

After being named Leicester’s Player of the Season, Maguire made a world record move to Old Trafford. Within six months, he was appointed club captain, a role he held until 2023. However, his United career has been through ups and downs, with his persistent errors and lack of judgement coming to light. He has fallen down the ranks this season, following Mathijs de Ligt and Leny Yoro’s arrival.
Maguire has made more than 200 appearances for the Red Devils, and has scored 12 goals. This season, the 31-year-old is looking to make his return to the starting XI under Ruben Amorim. He has made just 12 appearances, five of those from the bench.
