IPL 2021: “Absolutely happy to be back at RCB” – Harshal Patel speaks after ‘Man of the Match’ performance
Harshal Patel
Harshal Patel who was traded in from Delhi Capitals (DC) by the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) ahead of this year’s Indian Premier League (IPL) came up with a spell for the ages against the Mumbai Indians (MI) in the first match of the 2021 edition of the tournament. The bowling all-rounder was taken for his runs in his first over, but he came back with a terrific spell at the death to flatten the MI finishers.
His last over incredibly yielded just a solitary run and consisted of four wickets with Harshal taking three and the other being a run-out. Further, the 30-year-old was also needed by RCB with the bat at the death as he had to finish off the game in the last over. That was exactly what he did, by scoring 4 runs in 3 balls including the all-important single when one was needed off the final ball.
Harshal Patel reflects on his performance
Harshal Patel was awarded the ‘Man of the Match’ award for his performance in the match and he spoke about being back with RCB for whom he played from 2012 to 2017 before switching to Delhi Capitals and ultimately returning. “Absolutely happy to be back. When they traded me they told me my role was going to be bowling in the death and that is something that I have worked on for a couple of years. Happy to be here and with the faith they have shown in me.”
Speaking about his performance on the night, Harshal said, “I was just focused on my execution and the most important thing was to make use of my momentum. It is my first fifer in 98 T20s and the fact that it has come against MI makes it all the more special. I have worked a lot on my yorker. I was always good at the length balls and slower balls. I wanted to be a bowler who takes on responsibility and that’s what I have been working on.”
The IPL continues tomorrow with a match between Chennai Super Kings and Delhi Capitals in Mumbai.
