Ace Pakistani speedster Hasan Ali cheekily mimicked Abrar Ahmed’s ‘head-nod’ celebration, after dismissing him in a PSL encounter between Karachi Kings and Quetta Gladiators. Ali’s hilarious banter went viral on social media, with fans praising his demeanor.

The Kings and the Gladiators faced each other at the National Stadium in Karachi, with the home side dominating the contest to secure a 56-run victory over their rivals. Batting first, Karachi managed to post a total of 175 runs, thanks to a 70-run innings from the in-form James Vince. Karachi then managed to comfortably restrict Quetta to 117 runs in the chase, with Hasan Ali scalping three important wickets.

The most talked about moment of the match came in the 19th over of Quetta’s innings. In the fourth ball of the very over, Hasan Ali dismissed Abrar Ahmed with a full length delivery. Ahmed tried to shuffle across and swing, but the ball missed his bat, crashing into the leg stump. While Ahmed’s wicket marked the ninth in a disastrous middle-order collapse for the visitors, what followed was pure entertainment.

Hasan Ali, after claiming his Pakistani international teammate’s wicket, walked up to him, calling him out by shouting ‘Oye’. The Karachi Kings pacer then recreated Abrar Ahmed’s well-known signature ‘head-nod’ celebration, by raising his eyebrows and swaying his head from to the left, while folding his arms. It was surely aimed as a friendly jab at the 26-year-old leg-spinner, who was left dejected after the wicket.

Moreover, Hasan Ali, in a show of respect, later walked up to the departing Abrar Ahmed and hugged him, with a smile on his face. Abrar Ahmed’s ‘head-nod’ celebration had grabbed world-wide attention during the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy. The 26-year-old leg-spinner hit the same celebration after dismissing Indian opener Shubman Gill in a match between India and Pakistan, in the tournament.

It has since then become a trademark celebration for the young spinner, who has performed it after taking a wicket in any match. Interestingly, Abrar Ahmed had refrained from performing his celebration days earlier, after claiming a wicket against Lahore Qalandars. It however, did not stop Hasan Ali from mimicking the celebration and adding a friendly banter to a rather one-sided PSL encounter.

Meanwhile, Karachi Kings’ win over Quetta helped them climb to the 3rd position on the 2025 PSL table. The team led by Australian legend David Warner, comprising the likes of stars like James Vince, Mohammad Nabi, Tim Seifert, Adam Milne and others, have enjoyed a decent start to the ongoing season. Karachi has now won two out of its three opening encounters.

His three-wicket haul made him the highest wicket-taker in PSL history with 116 scalps in 85 appearances. The 30-year-old pacer, who has not played for the Pakistani national team for a year, has bowled at an average of 22.23 and an economy rate of 8.04 in the competition.

Moreover, Hasan Ali also managed to overtake former Pakistan international Wahab Riaz as the PSL’s leading wicket-taker, with the latter having taken 113 wickets in 88 matches. The two bowlers are followed by Shaheen Afridi (108 wickets) and Shadab Khan (97 wickets), on the list.
