The ‘Hawk Tuah’ girl Hailey Welch made an appearance at the Mets’ latest game and threw the ceremonial first pitch. The internet wasn’t very happy about it, but Hailey Welch didn’t pay much attention to the criticism. In fact, her response quite effectively turned the tables.

Hailey Welch took to X to respond to the backlash she received after her unexpected invitation to the Mets game. Although, unlike every other regular clap back, she chose to disclose the real reason why she was there in the first place.

She revealed that her appearance at the game was to spread awareness about donating to America’s VetDogs. She explained that the organization pairs service dogs with war veterans to provide them with a forever home. Along with her statement, she posted a promotional clip highlighting the cause.

It was no surprise that the internet reacted negatively to her involvement in the pitch, as criticism quickly spread. Adding to the controversy, a New York Mets reporter claimed he was barred from discussing the ‘Hawk Tuah’ girl. Tim Healey revealed on X that he wasn’t allowed to speak further about her appearance. Even MLB referred to her as “a viral internet star.” While the exact reason wasn’t specified, fans speculated that it could be related to the context of her rise to fame.

Hailey Welch gained sudden fame after giving a poker-faced, humorous answer during an interview. What really caught people’s attention was how Welch managed to secure representation on such a prominent platform. Some even went so far as to blame Welch for the New York Mets’ loss in the game.

WFAN’s Sal Licata ‘can’t take it anymore’ with Hailey Welch throwing the first pitch

WFAN’s Sal Licata expressed his views on Hailey Welch being included in the Mets game. To sum up, he wasn’t quite impressed with the Mets choice after they got Grimace and now the ‘Hawk Tuah’ girl. He pondered that the Yankees had Aaron Judge and Juan Soto, Babe Ruth, Mickey Mantle, Lou Gehrig.

With that, he went on a rant during the Brandon Tierney’s show on Thursday. He called it ridiculous and suggested that things like these got the fans mad. He called the Mets out on their gimmicks for themselves a laughingstock.

Sal Licata did think it was that big of a deal and it did not matter on the field. He then proceeded to lose his composure and reflected on the incident, calling it a joke.
