He Bingjiao vs PV Sindhu: India’s PV Sindhu is set to cross swords with China’s He Bingjiao in the Women’s Singles Badminton Bronze Medal match in the Tokyo Olympics on Sunday, August 1. The match will take place at the Musashino Forest Sport Plaza BDM Court 1. While Sindhu is placed seventh in the BWF World Rankings, Bingjiao is two places below her ninth.

Before coming into her semi-final match against China’s Tai Tzu-ying, also the World No.1, Sindhu didn’t drop a single set in the Tokyo Olympics. However, the Indian shuttler failed to survive the heat against Tzu-ying. The opening set went down the wire but Tzu-ying won by 21-18.

The Chinese player upped her game and thumped Sindhu by 21-12 in the second set. Nevertheless, all’s not lost for Sindhu as she gears up for the bronze medal match. The silver medallist of the Rio Olympics needs to park aside the agony of the last defeat to make a comeback.

Bingjiao, on the other hand, tried her heart out in the semi-final match against China’s Chen Yufei. The 24-year-old went on to the back foot after losing the opening set 16-21. However, she stormed back with a 21-13 triumph. The last set was mostly about who held her nerve better.

In the end, Bingjiao faltered as she lost 12-21. Keeping aside the result, Bingjiao managed to hog the limelight with her exuberance. Albeit she lost, she will be looking to carry her impressive form next time. However, getting past Sindhu may not be a cakewalk for her.
